Poemoscope Privacy Policy
1. General
This Privacy Policy describes what personal data Poemoscope (the "Service") processes, why, and what your rights are. It covers poemoscope.com and the Poemoscope mobile app for iOS and Android (the "App").
Current version: v1.1, effective 28 October 2026.
Poemoscope is a poetry oracle. You ask a question and receive a card together with a line of real poetry. The Service has no user accounts.
2. Who processes your data
The data controller is:
- Kiryl Anokhin, sole proprietorship (JDG), Poland
- NIP: 8982272619
- REGON: 521004109
- Address: Wrocław, Poland
- Privacy contact: [email protected]
We do not appoint a Data Protection Officer. The scale and nature of our processing do not require one under Art. 37 GDPR.
3. What we process
- Your question: the text you type.
- Technical data: IP address, device and browser data, the country your connection appears to come from, and request metadata in the ordinary server and delivery logs.
- Visitor identifier: a random identifier kept in a cookie on the website, or generated by the App on first launch. It carries no personal details.
- Usage counts: how many questions you have asked today, so that the daily allowance can be applied.
- Consent choice: your answer to the consent request.
- Error reports: when a request fails, a technical report of the failure. It may include the IP address.
- Analytics and advertising data: only with your consent, as described in section 5.
- Data kept on your device only: the lines you keep and your progress for the day stay in your browser or in the App and are not sent to us. An image of your line that you save or share is made on your device.
Sensitive information you may choose to write
Questions are free text, and people sometimes write about their health, relationships, beliefs or other private matters. We do not ask for any of this. Please do not include names, addresses, dates of birth or other details that identify you or anyone else. The oracle needs only the question.
If you nevertheless include such details, you do so by your own choice and consent to our processing of that text for the sole purpose of answering your question (Art. 9(2)(a) GDPR). The text of your question is deleted after 12 months.
4. Purposes and legal bases
| Purpose | Legal basis (GDPR) |
|---|---|
| Answering your question and showing you the reading | Art. 6(1)(b), performance of contract |
| Applying the daily allowance, preventing abuse, keeping the Service secure, error reporting | Art. 6(1)(f), legitimate interest in keeping the Service available and stable |
| Checking the country of your connection and withholding the Service where we do not offer it | Art. 6(1)(f), legitimate interest in limiting the Service to the regions we serve |
| Sensitive details you choose to include in a question | Art. 9(2)(a), your explicit consent |
| Anonymous statistics about the use of the Service | Art. 6(1)(f), legitimate interest in understanding and improving the Service |
| Analytics | Art. 6(1)(a), consent |
| Advertising, including rewarded ads you choose to watch | Art. 6(1)(a), consent for personalised ads. Art. 6(1)(b), performance of contract for crediting the reward you earned |
| Replying to your emails | Art. 6(1)(f), legitimate interest in answering you |
Your question is the only data the Service needs from you to produce a reading. You can avoid providing it by not asking.
5. Cookies and consent
Strictly necessary (always on): the visitor identifier cookie, which applies the daily allowance and keeps your reading for the day, and the cookie that stores your consent choice. These do not require consent. The App sets no cookies and uses its own identifier for the same purpose.
Analytics and advertising (consent only): analytics and advertising tools load only after you consent. You can change or withdraw your consent at any time in the consent settings on the website or in the App. If you decline personalised advertising, any ads shown are not tailored to you.
In the App, a device advertising identifier is used for personalised ads only with your consent, on iOS only after you allow it in the App Tracking Transparency prompt.
Analytics and advertising are provided by Google. See How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services and Google's Privacy Policy.
6. Recipients
Your data is processed on our behalf by the following categories of providers:
- a hosting provider in the EU
- a content delivery network and security provider
- an error reporting provider
- AI service providers that process the text of your question on our behalf to produce a reading. They receive the question text only, with no IP address or identifier.
- Google, for analytics and advertising, subject to your consent
- in the App, ad networks, subject to your consent
We do not sell personal data and do not share it with third parties for their own purposes.
7. International transfers
Some providers are located in the USA. For these transfers we rely on Standard Contractual Clauses approved by the European Commission. A copy of the clauses is available on request at [email protected].
8. Retention
- The text of your question: 12 months, then deleted. What remains after that is anonymous and contains no text and no identifier.
- Usage counts and short-lived technical records: up to 2 days.
- Visitor identifier cookie: 1 year, or until you delete it.
- Error reports: 30 days.
- Server and delivery logs: 90 days.
- Analytics and advertising data: held by Google for the periods set in its policies and your consent choices.
- Data on your device: until you clear your browser's site data or uninstall the App.
9. Your rights
GDPR (visitors in the EU/EEA): access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability, objection, withdrawal of consent at any time without affecting earlier processing, and the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority. In Poland this is UODO (Personal Data Protection Office), uodo.gov.pl.
CCPA (California residents): right to know, delete, and opt out of sale or sharing. We do not sell or share personal information.
Elsewhere: you have the rights your local data protection law gives you, and you can use them by writing to us.
Because there are no accounts and stored questions carry no identifier, we may be unable to find a specific question of yours unless you tell us its wording and roughly when you asked it (Art. 11 GDPR). Write to [email protected]. We respond within 30 days. Clearing the site data in your browser, or uninstalling the App, removes everything Poemoscope keeps on your device.
10. Automated decisions
We do not make decisions about you based solely on automated processing that produce legal or similarly significant effects (Art. 22 GDPR).
11. Children
The Service is not intended for persons under 13. We do not ask for a name, age or any other personal detail and do not knowingly collect data from children under 13. If you learn that a child has submitted data without parental consent, contact us and we will remove it.
12. Changes
We may update this Policy. For material changes we will give at least 14 days' notice on the website and in the App.
13. Contact
